Metzeler E-18H1 Medium Enduro mousse: puncture protection for an 18-inch rear wheel

The Metzeler E-18H1 Medium mousse replaces the inner tube in a rear off-road tyre. Its cellular rubber construction removes conventional inner-tube pinch flats and punctures, helping the tyre retain consistent support through special tests, technical climbs and long Enduro days. The Medium version is aimed at riders looking for a balanced combination of support, traction and steering accuracy.

The code is easy to read: E identifies Enduro use, 18 is the rim diameter, H1 defines the mousse cross-section and shape, and Medium is the compound. Once installed, a new mousse gives a feel broadly equivalent to 0.7 bar ± 0.1. This is an approximate value; the actual feel varies with tyre construction, temperature, mousse wear and suspension settings.

Fitting and maintenance

Mousse installation requires suitable tyre levers, a sound rim lock and sufficient lubricant. Spread the supplied Metzeler fitting gel evenly around the mousse and throughout the inside of the tyre, keeping it away from the beads. Correct lubrication reduces friction and heat, makes fitting easier and has a direct effect on service life.

After the first installation, test the motorcycle and adjust the suspension if required. A new mousse can change rear-wheel support and rebound compared with an inner tube. Remove the tyre periodically to inspect the insert, renew the lubricant and check for deformation, cuts or dry areas. Avoid excessive heat, prolonged storage inside the tyre and long, fast road transfers.

Does it fit a 140/80-18 tyre?
Yes. 140/80-18 is the main fitment listed by Metzeler. The 2026 Metzeler technical documentation also lists 120/100-18 and 130/90-18.

Does the tyre still need inflation?
No. The mousse completely replaces the inner tube and has no valve. When new and correctly installed, it feels broadly equivalent to 0.7 bar ± 0.1.

Can it be used on public roads?
No. NHS means “Not for Highway Service”. This product is intended for off-road and competition use only.

Is fitting gel essential?
Yes. Thorough and regular lubrication is essential to control heat and prevent premature wear. Use the supplied gel for installation and inspect the lubrication periodically.
